FIRST ANNUAL BARNYARD BLAST HELD AT POND HILL FARM OCTOBER 2

5-K or 5 MILE Fun Run/Walk or  to benefit local nonprofit Farming For Our Future

If eating fresh, local foods from bountiful Northern Michigan excites you, it’s time to put that energy to use during Farming For Our Future’s First Annual Barnyard Blast!

The 5-K (3.1 mile) or 5 mile Fun Run/Walk, held at Pond Hill Farm, will start at 10 am. The course winds through the Harbor Springs countryside, allowing participants to relish fall colors.  This year the course will include an optional 2 mile run through the new terraced vineyard.  2 miles of switchbacks will deliver a challenge to those motivated runners who want to take on the new Vineyard Challenge.  Prizes will be awarded to the fastest oldest and fastest youngest runner. The race fee is $10; all proceeds benefit Farming For Our Future, a 501(c) nonprofit.

Farming For Our Future organizes educational and community programming “to foster people’s connection to what they eat, where it is grown, and how their choices affect their personal health and the health of their community and planet.”

According to Executive Director Toril Fisher, “This is our 3rd year in growing this race.  We have families that travel from as far as Ohio to participate.  We excited about the addition of the optional Vineyard Challenge.  The views from the top of the terraced vineyard are spectacular.   The Barnyard Blast event is yet another way for Farming For Our Future to promote its mission through offering outdoors, healthy oriented events for families.”

Fisher added that the date of the event is the same day as Pond Hill Farm’s Fall Festival, which draws hundreds of families to the farm to enjoy hayrides, pumpkins, food and games.  “There will be activities for all ages and abilities, so if you plan on coming to the farm that day, bring your running shoes.  We will be offering race-day registration for the Barnyard Blast from 8-9:30 a.m.”

Runners are also encouraged to register ahead of time by downloading a race form at
