Wednesday May 5th, 6-8pm: Drink for a Cause!

It’s Celebrity Bartending at the Noggin Room! Please come from 6pm-8pm and support the garden while Farming For Our Future Board Members Jimmy Spencer from Pond Hill and Jaime Jankowski, Drink Slinger of the Wild Northwest (and Local Foods Activist) get behind the bar to serve you your favorite drinks for Cinco de Mayo.

All tips will go to the garden to pay for items such as drip irrigation, a sign, a tool shed (and the tools!), and so many other things!  See you there.

Tuesday May 4th, 7pm: Dirt! The Movie

Come and join the Petoskey Community Victory Garden at the Cargnegie Building Tuesday May 4th at 7pm.  Doors open at 6:30pm.  We’ll have some fun activities before the movie showing at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $10/person and $15/family.  Come early to claim your seat, as we’re expecting quite a crowd!

This is a fundraiser for the garden.  (Even though we’ve got the beds built and the soil in, we still need to pay for the sign, the drip irrigation system, water throughout the summer, and more.  Get ready for an enlightening movie and a fun night with the community!

“The only remedy for disconnecting people from the natural world is connecting them to it again.”  What we’ve destroyed, we can heal!

Anything Is Possible!

The garden looks beautiful!  All the beds are secured, filled with dirt, and ready to go!  On Saturday, one of the plot owners said,

It is an amazing thing when people come together for a common cause. To see how work can get accomplished in such a short time with so many hands. The community, the effort, the beauty of life comes through it all. I am thankful today for the Petoskey Community Victory Garden.”

Check out photos from the work party on Facebook.

Nice work everybody!!

It’s Really Happening!

Let’s Get Dirty!! April 16-18

We have all the applications in, plot owners are being contacted about their plots, and we are ready to get our hands in the ground!  Next up: get the lumber, soil, etc. delivered to the site (thank you Al!), get the sign approved, set up the drip irrigation (thank you Jimmy !) and get to work.  Our work party is scheduled April 16, 17, and 18.  Plot owners will be receiving information on work shifts and what things they might need to bring.

Friday night, a crew of skilled laborers will be working on cutting the lumber for the raised beds.

Saturday (and Sunday), all the plot owners show up to take part in the building of raised beds and spreading of soil.

See you there!
